The Screams of a Caterpillar - Black Girl Bruja

The Screams of a Caterpillar

Read Time:2 Minute, 38 Second

In my usual case of thought mode, I was replaying something I had heard in a Facebook Group I participate in called Miracles and Manifestations.  The group is headed by Yyonne May, a gifted spiritual worker.  I heard her say, her teacher said to her…..Yvonne, if you could hear the screams of caterpillars during their metamorphosis, you would lose your mind.

A cocooned Monarch Butterfly

I heard that statement, and it shut my entire brain down to process the entire genius, profoundness and dopeness of that statement.  Because omg, YES!!!!  We always talk about the beauty of the caterpillar as it cocoons itself to turn into a butterfly, but what about that pain though!!!! 😱😱😱😱 The thought of the pain that we don’t see during that metamorphosis.  Yikes!!!! It can’t be pleasant if they literally have to shut down.

Like, as humans, when we have had enough of people’s shit, we shut the fuck down.  Everybody gotta go while I go and get me back together.  I love you, but I gotta go away for ME!!!  YES, you mean the world to me, but I HAVE to protect me.  I’m rooting for ME!!  And so really, the caterpillar is shut down.  Sometimes growth hurts!!!!!!

And yes, our growth is just as miraculous as the caterpillar.  But sometimes that shit just hurts!!!!!!

When we see the beautiful butterfly, we are always in awe of it’s beauty and grace (well I am) as it glides through the air.  I love taking pictures of the butterflies as they flutter through my garden. It just makes me smile everytime! Even moreso, very few people, even those that hate bugs, shun butterflies.  We relish in it’s beauty.  We forget all about the struggle it went through.  The pain it endured, the need its body had to shut completely down to get to its next destination in life, a beautiful graceful butterfly.

Something for all of us to keep in mind.  Healing, growing, and learning sometimes requires us to feel some pain, but if we lean into truth, love and the God within us, even out tests and nightmares become a testament of beauty and grace.

God does all things well.  Just as he knows how to guide the caterpillar into knowing exactly when and how to transform, he guides us as well.

Orange butterfly amongst the Shasta Daisies!!!

I thought about it, even the things that broke me down and made me scream in terror, and frustration, and fear.  Every single time I have triumphed in beauty and with grace with things that I thought would bury me.

Our pain and suffering is not for naught.  It was just a part of our beautiful transformation process.  Yes the butterfly is beautiful, but that metamorphosis process was a bitch!!!!  It had to endure being a caterpillar, realizing it had to change, cocoon itself for protection, and become an entire different version of itself.  And it is rewarded with Beauty and Grace.  God gives us beauty and the growth after our growth from lessons.

Thank God for butterflies! 🦋

Hi, I’m Daisy — it’s so good to meet you! 🌻 I’ve arrived at this chapter in my life through a whole lot of trial, error, and yes… growth. My spiritual foundation was built on dual roots: I was raised in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and I also had the unique blessing of attending a Spiritualist Church from a young age. I often say I got to experience the best of both worlds — and both traditions have deeply shaped the woman and the spiritual practitioner I am today. Now, I don’t call myself a psychic, but I’ve always had a sense — a knowing — that I was tuned into something deeper. I could feel things coming before they happened. Not lottery numbers (I wish!), but those vivid déjà vu moments and spiritual nudges that were just too clear to ignore. Over time, that connection began to deepen. During periods of stress or transition, I started meeting my ancestors in dreams — real conversations, real presence. My grandmother, my great-grandmother, my mom, even my Aunt CB — my Great Grandmother’s sister — have all shown up. Sometimes it’s just a warm visit. Other times, they come bearing wisdom from beyond. These women are my roots. My people. My Divine Team. After years of learning how to listen — really listen — to my guides and my higher self, I now stand grounded and confident in my ability to receive and interpret messages from the spirit world. Not just for myself, but for others, too.
