You Reap What You Sow…..

Part of delving into spirituality is understanding our relationship within the Universe.

It is such a privilege to be able to work within nature to create and contribute to the cycle of life and the repair of the planet.

Sidebar: I have been seeing several memes lately about this being a period of hibernation and rest because we are following nature.  No!!!!!!!  This is the time of planning and sowing, so when the time comes for you to be in action, you will be ready and prepared!

In gardening terms, that’s the difference between planting from seed, or planting someone’s else’s seed of hard work.  Using someone else’s work cost more out of pocket money too!!!

We are in a season of planning so we can be prepared to sow our seeds when it’s time.

Let’s get to planning our 2023 Gardens

I have already started some seeds for the 2023 gardening season, but I still have more to start!

Red Yard Long Noodle Beans Harvested Summer 2022

Currently growing: Lemons 🍋

I know….growing citrus fruit, or heck even stone fruit, is not an exact science because grafting (attaching the desired fruit branch on a hardy rootstock for hardiness) is used so much in the agricultural industry.  However, in the midst of growing my other fruits and vegetables, I also love to experiment!  I am citrus queen though…..so the daunting task of growing citrus does not bother me at all!  I am happy for the challenge.

Supplies needed:

Fresh Lemon Seeds

Dirt

Small pots

I started by carefully peeling the hard outer shell off of the lemon. That will expose the delicate seed on the inside.

Then we place 1 seed into each peat pot.

Make sure your seeds are watered thoroughly, and cover.

Sit seeds under grow lights, or on a window sill for light.

Gardening doesn’t have to be expensive. We just want our seeds to grow! I literally have basil rooting right now in a plain water bottle.

Give your seeds a few weeks to sprout, and you’re in business!

Lemon 🍋 seedlings emerging from the dirt after a few weeks!

Here are my lemon seeds approximately 1 month after planting.

Look at the progress on our lemon seeds!!! Very exciting!

Things to take into consideration……

Gardening Zone

I am gardening in the United States. Our gardening zones are separated into 10 different zones, with each one having different temperatures, frost and freezing dates. It is so important to know what those dates are so you can make maximize your gardening productivity.

I personally live and garden in zone 6, which is why I start alot of my seeds indoors so when our temperatures warm up in the spring, I can hit the ground running with my seedlings!

If you are unsure of your gardening Zone, here is a map for you to find yours.

Hardiness Zone Map for Unites States

I found this map on the the Arbor Day website! Their website is located at https://www.arborday.org/media/zones.cfm.

You can also look at their website for lots of useful gardening information.

Gardening Space

Gardening space is such a big thing deal! When I first started gardening, I was living on a military base and I did not DARE till up their grass, so I started out gardening in pots! And really, I enjoy gardening in pots. No weeds, easy to position the pots where you want, and they are really easy to take care of! However, depending on what supplies you use, it can be rather expensive–pots and dirt.

This is what I use for gardening pots:

I like them because they are lightweight with handles, and omg, you can get so many sizes to suit your gardening needs!

But, if you have space, space!!!! The sky is the limit when it comes to gardening plans. I must admit, that when I started gardening I had no real gardening plans and I just wanted to get stuff in the ground. It was really trial and error for years when I started in ground gardening. The idea that I had in my head was to have a garden to which my kids could come outside and just pick some healthy snacks to eat. I just wasn’t quite sure of how to get there…..

And even now, after years of successful gardening, and having a garden that I love, I still find adjustments that I want to make!

At this point, I have some permanent gardening spots and some interchangeable gardening spots which allows me to experiment with new things!

This is my blueberry and daisy patch! My kids absolutely love going out to the blueberry patch to pick fresh blue berries to eat! And, in addition to daisies being my favorite flower, it is a great pollinator and it attracts so many beneficial bees and butterflies to the yard!

Warning!!  I don’t necessarily like grass, so I front yard garden.  Depending on where you live and/or your homeowners association,  front yard gardening might not be for you.  Yes, I live within a home owners association,  but I do it anyway!  You don’t have to be a rebel like me to garden though.

However,  in my front yard, I grow a few things! Let’s take a peek!!!

Good ole collard greens, dill and my Georgia white peach tree!!!
There are actually two peach trees in this photo.  My Georgia white peach to the left, and my Saturn peach to the right (the burgandy tinged leaves).
Lemon thyme, broccoli raab, spinach and cat nip!!
Cone flower better known as Echinacea
I really love sitting out in my garden to relax!  I have enough of a border between the street to still feel secluded!  It really is the best!
Check out the white raspberries!  Omg, they are so delicious!!!!  Be careful planting raspberries in your yard, because they do spread!
Georgia white peaches!!!!  The most delicious peach EVER!
Kiwi vine!!!!! Kinda mixed in with a grape vine, but it works for me!
A cold hardy fig tree! It is beautiful, and delicious!
This is my symbiotic relationship with nature. They take what the want, and I live with it!
Here you see a red currant bush, lemonade blueberries and a cold hardy fig. If you look to the left and see the vine, you will see kiwi growing!
A tart cherry tree with a sage patch

One would think that with all of that, I would be all gardened out, but I’m not!!!! Let’s look at the backyard garden!!!

My corn patch
Apples on my apple tree!!!!!
We have zucchini and watermelon. Oh, and mint. Listen, if you don’t want mint EVERYWHERE, and I mean everywhere….put it in a pot. But I love mint, so it’s all good.
Yes it is! Listen, I am a believer in the benefits of marijuana….and yes, I have a license to grow, so no raids over here. Lol!
My strawberry patch!
My donation to the neighborhood animals….no it doesn’t stop them from taking mine, but maybe it helps the smaller animals
My little baby watermelon. Isn’t she so cute!
Look at my eggplant grow!!!
I have the privilege of having a next door neighbor that is a bee farmer. Yes, we live in the middle of the city! We just believe in fully using our properties!
Pepper plants!
Baby beefsteak tomatoes
Pear tomatoes!

So now that we have taken a sneak peak at my garden, how are we going to get your garden going? Within the next coming weeks we are going to start our seeds to get a jump-start on gardening season 2023!

Please understand that you do not have to spend alot of money to be a successful gardener, you only have to have the determination to want to grow! You really got this, we really got this!

Check back to our website in a few weeks for access to fantastic seeds and great gardening finds! I’m working on uploading those things now! This is going to be such an exciting gardening year! Let’s get growing!
